The 9th Annual Harbor House Golf Outing raised $16,157 that will be used to provide safe shelter, transportation and other services to women who are survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Miller & Miller Insurance and Financial Services and Smith Ambulance Service sponsored the event July 16 at Oak Shadows Golf Club at New Philadelphia. Thirty teams participated.

GCS Consulting won first place with a score of 58 by Mike Griesen, Pete Franz, Mike McCray, and Gerald Griesen.

Two teams tied with scores of 62 with a tie-breaker determining second and third places.

Second place went to the Chris Varcolla Team of Chris Varcolla, Stan Olson, Greg Gurney and Bob Terakedis. Third place went to the Parkway Honda team of Cory Parker, Ben Garner, Mike Smith and Shane Swinderlin.

A live auction by Ryan Wallick of Wallick Auctions netted more than $1,400.

Zack Feller and Dr. Tom Henry co-chaired the event.

Harbor House, a division of Personal & Family Counseling Services of the Tuscarawas Valley Inc. provided more than 6,700 nights of safe shelter last year to women and children in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties, according to Marilyn L. Henry, president and chief executive officer of PFCS.

“The annual golf outing is vital to ensuring that Harbor House has the resources to meet the needs of the women and children in the Tuscarawas Valley who are survivors of domestic violence,” Henry said.

“The grants that fund the domestic violence shelter received cuts this year due to decreases in federal funding making this fundraiser, along with donations, increasingly important in meeting the increasing needs of women and children that utilize the services of Harbor House.”
